Lockdown news. Please see the update below under 'News'.

COVID SWABBING DONE HERE: for contacts of cases or cold symptoms.  If you have mild cold symptoms and only require a COVID swab, please call the nurse for an appointment. There is no charge for this and the waiting time is minimal. We also do travel COVID swabs.

We take your concerns seriously and listen.

Howick Health and Medical Centre is fortunate to have a group of experienced compassionate well qualified doctors with a variety of skills to provide high quality care to the local Howick area as well as the surrounding suburbs.

You are NOT JUST ANOTHER NUMBER when you join our medical centre. We take your concerns seriously and LISTEN!

A random survey (National Patient Experience Survey that is conducted nationally) in May 2018 showed all  patients surveyed rated our doctors in the areas of 'kindness and understanding' and 'treated with respect' at 100%!

This random survey repeated in August 2019 rated our GPs and nurses 'treated our patients with respect, kindness and understanding' at 100%!  This survey also showed the practice's communication (in 11 areas including 'GP or nurse listen to you', GP or nurse explanations are easy to understand') was rated at 9.2/10  (national average 8.4/10). Reception staff were rated at 95.5% for 'treating patients with respect'.

We are currently accepting new patients.
As well as providing general health care for your family, we also perform well person checks, travel health checks, and skin cancer surgery.

We are a teaching practice that involves participation in a Continuous Improvement Programme that strives to deliver high quality patient-centred health care.

We can usually accommodate your request for an urgent appointment on the same day. Just  call us and we'll do our best to help.

Note:  We do not perform immigration medical examinations.

News

Current cases. As per MOH website please have a swab on day 5 and day 12 and self isolate for 14 days. Please call and book for your COVID swab with us. We will make time slots available on Monday 29 February 1215pm-1pm and 4pm for COVID swabbing. So call  us on Monday morning to book for this. We usually accommodate for all our registered patients and their relatives. Time slots will be updated on a daily basis.

Email update: we will likely notify our patients about the upcoming COVID-19 vaccine by email so please update your email address as well as your mobile (go to the Contact).

Level 3 lockdown. It is recommended that we move to remote (virtual -video or phone) consultations. The doors will be locked and you will be required to call us prior to entering. Please wear a mask. We are encouraging virtual consultations (phone or video) in about 70% of cases so it is possible you may not see the doctor even if you booked an in person consult and arrive at the practice. If you have a virtual consult and have photos of a skin lesion/rash/ sore throat etc please send this at least 30 mins prior to your appointment to howickreception@outlook.com. We appreciate your understanding in what is a challenging situation for all.

If you have only mild cold symptoms and would like a swab please call the nurse to arrange this.  There is no change for a COVID consult. Additional charges apply if other non COVID issues are discussed.

Results: you will be encouraged to access the patient portal for your results by your doctor so please register by clicking to the right and fill in the patient portal consent form.
